Metro Energy Solutions Announces Completion of Consulting Agreement for Morris View Nursing Home Cogeneration System

West Caldwell, NJ, May 22, 2003.  Metro Energy Solutions announced today it has completed work on the cogeneration system at Morris County’s Morris View Nursing Home in Morris Plains, New Jersey.  Metro Energy Solutions was hired by the County of Morris in April, 2002 to design, engineer and oversee the installation of modifications to an existing inoperable cogeneration system at the 180-bed nursing home.  The existing cogeneration system consisted of three (3) 75 kW Tecogen CM75 cogeneration modules with less than 200 hours of total runtime on the engines.  The cogeneration system was installed with the original construction of the newest addition to the Morris View complex in 1996, and virtually never operated properly due to numerous problems resulting in engine overheating and shutdown.

“We are extremely pleased with the results of this project,” stated Robert Ragozine, COO of Metro Energy Solutions.  “Morris County invested a lot of money in the original cogeneration system and they have never been able to receive the intended operational benefits of cogeneration, until now.  With the upcoming increases in electric costs due to deregulation, we have determined the new cogeneration system will save Morris County approximately $75,000 per year.”

Metro Energy Solutions determined four major problems with the existing cogeneration system: 1) The primary plumbing system that responsible for removing heat from the cogeneration system was not functioning properly; 2) The existing cogeneration modules needed to have a load dump radiator system installed; 3) The three cogeneration modules were somewhat outdated and needed several modifications including a new electronic control panel for each; and 4) A thorough review of the hydronic portion of the system determined problems with pumps and electrical controls.

The cogeneration system is now fully operational and has been operating with an up-time of over 90%.  In addition, by tying Morris View Nursing Home’s in-house laundry into the cogeneration system, a problem with excessive heat in the laundry has been eliminated.  Metro Energy Solutions has performed numerous projects for the County of Morris, including lighting retrofits in many of the County’s facilities, rooftop HVAC unit changeouts, and the installation of new electronic building controls.
