Energy Solutions Announces Installation of 300 KVA Uninterruptible
Power Supply System Project with Ricoh Corporation
West Caldwell, NJ - August, 2003 – Metro Energy Solutions
announced today it has completed the installation of a new 300 KVA
Uninterruptible Power System (UPS) for Ricoh Corporation, headquartered
in West Caldwell, New Jersey. The new UPS was designed to protect
Ricoh’s Data Center, which is located in the company’s
United States headquarters facility, and it replaced an old 150
KVA UPS that had become outdated. The new UPS was designed with
four custom battery cabinets that provide over 90 minutes of battery
time in the event of a loss of power.
Ricoh Corporation hired Metro Energy Solutions to design and install
a new UPS that would provide superior battery life and have the
ability to protect many additional pieces of equipment than the
old UPS, which had become outdated. In addition, Metro Energy Solutions
was required to perform the removal of the old system, and the installation
of the new system in a very short amount of time, since any loss
of power to Ricoh’s U.S. headquarters forces the company to
lose phone service and internet access, including the ability to
keep its website up. To help provide insurance against a loss of
power during the installation, Metro Energy Solutions brought in
a 400 kW temporary generator to provide back-up power.
"Metro
Energy did a fantastic job of preparing for this project, which
enabled them to condense the amount of time we needed to shut our
Data Center down,” stated Joe Vallorosi, Vice President of
IT for Ricoh. “We originally planned to be without power for
2 full weekends, which our IT people were not happy about, but reluctantly
agreed to. Once Metro Energy realized the type of problems that
presented for us, they came up with a strategy that allowed them
to disconnect the old UPS and have the new UPS up and running in
only one weekend. It wasn’t easy, but everything worked out
great.”“This was a team effort in the truest sense,”
stated Robert Ragozine, COO of Metro Energy Solutions. “As
always, we worked very closely with Ricoh’s people, particularly
the facilities and IT departments, to make this happen. We are very
proud of this project because it was performed under some unique
circumstances, and it was extremely critical to Ricoh, which made
it extremely critical to us.”
